Lake Roberts is a small mountain lake in southwestern New Mexico, set among pines and mixed forest in the Gila region. It’s a comfortable, low-stress fishing spot with cool water, clean shorelines, and a setting that makes even a slow bite feel like a good day.
Lake Roberts is primarily a trout water, with rainbow trout being the main draw and the best bite often occurring in the cooler parts of the year. Spring can be excellent when fish are shallow, and fall can be very consistent as water temperatures drop again. The lake fishes well from shore, but small boats and float tubes help you reach deeper contours as the season progresses. Simple presentations—small spinners, worms, power bait, and balanced leech-style flies—tend to cover most situations.
Lake Roberts is easy to reach by regional roads and has public access with a boat ramp and good shoreline opportunities. The surrounding area is popular for camping and outdoor recreation, so anglers can comfortably make a weekend out of it. Services are limited once you’re at the lake, so it’s best to arrive prepared.
Fees: Day-use or parking fees may apply at some federally managed access areas.
Lake Roberts is frequently managed for trout and may have seasonal rules that reflect stocking schedules and conservation goals. Check current New Mexico regulations for daily limits, bait allowances, and any lake-specific notices before fishing.
